Beware Spider Eating Birds
I made big stick-tree display for the back yard with plastic spiders and webbing, about 6 feet tall and put it out about a week before Halloween. The day after I put it out, I noticed that some spiders had fallen off, thinking nothing of it I just whacked them back up. The next day I walked out and there was Leatherneck birds squawking about the tree, what the... so I watched them... flog up the plastic spiders...and then they stole my spider webbing for nests !!!
Buy the time it was Halloween I had 6 spiders left and no webbing in the stick tree, but there was snippets of fluff and the random spider in the neighbours tree.

wow, never heard of that
wow, never heard of that before.
although i'd never heard of leatherneck birds either.
had to go to page 3 of google to get beyond all the copied definitions of the "sordid friar bird of Australia" to find http://birdsinbackyards.net/species/Philemon-corniculatus
I had the opposite problem - some real spiders getting close to my fake webs. it makes cleaning up kind of scary. there was a giant huntsman in my front garden i was trying to avoid.
cheers
