About

Gidday, my name is Chris.
I'm an Aussie mum who likes halloween.

When my kids were 2 and 4 we got transferred to the US for work.
We lived in lovely Raleigh in North Carolina, surrounded by neighbours with kids the same age.  They made us very welcome, showed us how to carve a pumpkin (and bake the seeds), and invited us to go trick-or-treating with them.
Good Southern Baptist country, it was pure fun.

Then we got transferred to Tokyo, Japan.
With so many US expats and the Japanese love of decorations, halloween was pretty big over there too.
We have great photos and memories of all the kids dressed up, visiting each others homes trick or treating.

When we came back to Australia, we moved into a suburb where halloween was already celebrated.
One of the mums put a note in all the letterboxes suggesting that black and orange balloons be tied to the fence if we wanted kids to trick-or-treat.
There was a great feeling of community with lots of small groups walking together from house to house.

We already had a great mix of decorations from both countries, from the screaming doormat, clay pumpkin, spiderwebs and spiders, severed hands plus all the craft the kids had made at school. And each year we (I) can't resist buying a little more.

Before having kids I had worked with large computers, but didn't have a working visa when overseas. Building the website was initially a way of learning a new language, and also sharing tips, as after that first year, there were no letterbox drops.  But several nearby streets had large numbers of houses that put up halloween decorations, so we kept up the tradition.

My kids are now teenagers and hand out the lollies instead of trick or treating.
But I'm a complete geek who loves putting up decorations (and at Christmas too).
I just have to work out how to upload a scary ringtone to the doorbell.

It's all just fun. Hope you enjoy it.
